Newark Water Fund

United Way of Essex and West Hudson Establishes The Newark Water Fund.

Newark Public School Officials Have Found Elevated Lead Levels in the Water at 30 School Buildings.

waterbottles for newarkLevels at the 30 locations ranged from 15.6 parts per billion to 558 ppb — well above the Environmental Protection Agency’s so-called action level of 15 ppb.

Commissioner Bob Martin of the NJ Department of Environmental Protection says testing shows high lead levels are related to aging school infrastructure, not Newark’s state regulated water source.

The United Way of Essex and West Hudson in support of the City of Newark and Newark Public Schools has set up the Newark Water Fund.

All proceeds collected for this fund will support the purchase of clean water and support services to ensure Newark student’s have access to the resources needed to address this issue. 100% of the fund is used in support of this issue.
