American Graduate Day: United Way and Public Media Spotlight Education – September 22United Way and public media share a commitment to education – specifically to spotlight solutions to the nation’s high school dropout crisis. This Saturday, September 22, Stacey Stewart of United Way Worldwide, will participate in an “American Graduate Day” multi-platform event, featuring a live television broadcast from WNET Studios at Lincoln Center in New York City. The program will premiere from 1:00 to 8:00 pm, and run nationally on PBS and NPR stations (check station listings for your area). The United Way segment should appear early in the program (possibly the first hour).
“American Graduate Day” highlights community partners, educators and youth, who help keep at-risk students in school nationwide. Among the national organizations featured are United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America, National Council of La Raza, The YMCA of the USA.
Stacey Stewart, Executive Vice President of Community Impact Leadership and Learning at United Way Worldwide, will participate in a panel discussion, and she’ll be joined by Jennifer Jones-Austin of United Way of New York City, and Chris Canty, an NFL player with the New York Giants, who’s a proud supporter of United Way’s call to recruit one million readers, tutors and mentors.
