This year, the program formerly referred to as “Doing Good on Good Friday” has changed its name to “Spring into Action” Restoring the Mind, Body and Soul.
In the past the event was held on Good Friday. This year, it will be held on the day after Good Friday, Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 10:00am – 12:00pm in the United Way parking lot at 303 Washington Street in Newark. Parking is available across the street for a nominal fee.
Since 2003, volunteers from Agape Family Worship Center and United Way of Essex and West Hudson, and the community at large come together to distribute pre-packaged boxes of food and personal care items to families in need. Typically over 100 volunteers take part in this heartfelt and healthy activity. In the past, families have received various items such as non-perishable food, clothing, household items, and shoes to name just a few. To date the program has served over 4,800 families.
United Way of Essex and West Hudson and Agape Family Worship Center, in an effort to maximize resources, work with community partners such as Community Food Bank of NJ, Shoprite, Dollar Tree, and Gifts In-Kind International to purchase items for the families at a reduced cost.
