This year, the program formerly referred to as “Doing Good on Good Friday” changed its name to “Spring into Action” Restoring the Mind, Body and Soul.
In the past the event was held on Good Friday. This year, it was held on the day after Good Friday, Saturday, April 4, 2015 in the United Way parking lot at 303 Washington Street in Newark.
Over 350 area families received pre-packaged boxes of food and personal care items and over 100 volunteers took part in this heartfelt and healthy community activity.
In the past, families have received various items such as non-perishable food, clothing, household items, and shoes to name just a few. To date the program has served over 5,000 families.
United Way of Essex and West Hudson and Agape Family Worship Center, in an effort to maximize resources, work with community partners such as Community Food Bank of NJ, Shoprite, Dollar Tree, and Gifts In-Kind International to purchase items for the families at a reduced cost.
