HELPING FAMILIES BECOME FINANCIALLY STABLE AND INDEPENDENT

Financial stability comes from having an income adequate to pay for today's necessities and save for the future, but almost 1 in 4 working parents don't earn enough money to provide for their families, even though many hold multiple jobs.

"Many families in Essex and Hudson Counties confront multiple and inter-related challenges that compromise their ability to lead stable, healthy and productive lives.  Many are impoverished and face crises for which they have limited or no financial resources to draw upon.  These economic woes are sometimes compounded by substance abuse and mental health issues.  Children and youth in these families usually fare poorly among a number of indices of well-being, and are highly at-risk for abuse/neglect, low academic achievement, and involvement with the criminal justice system."
